Hurricane Festival 202524. Jun '25, 8:22 pm
Thursday:

In a good mood, we went to the βFast Laneβ without our luggage to get our wristbands. I could already tell that the sun was really strong, but luckily it wasn't that hot.
Then the stressful part began - we had to pack everything we needed for camping into handcarts and walk the 1-hour walk to the camps. Since that wasn't hard enough, of course, we had a few complications. First of all, everything (backpack and handcart) was SUPER heavy and I died already just because of it. Then, however, my handcart collapsed under the load and I had to put the table to the side somewhere (hoping nobody would steal it) and pushed the cart along as best I could with a broken tire. Spoiler: Didn't go well at all. I at some point even had to carry it π It was so heavy. π
Well, after we arrived THREE HOURS LATER, we started setting up the camp. Of course, this turned out to be quite difficult, as we had to build the pavilion, which is originally a 4-person job, with just us 2 persons. To get the roof on top would be difficult, so we tried to built it upside-down and - Tada! A good idea in theory, but Mother Nature suddenly conjured up so MUCH wind that it almost blew us away. A few nice people then helped us to set it up the right way quickly.

When we picked up our beer from the pre-sale shop, we could finally sit back and enjoy the good weather (oh another spoiler: of course I got a big sunburn on my neck which is now starting to peel, ew).
After freshening up, we went to see the first band βRaum 27β. It was soo beautiful! I didn't know a single song, but Melina wanted to see them. Afterwards we got some Asian noodles and sat at the table with strangers and chatted. When we had finished eating, we actually went straight to bed. π΄
Friday:
After being awake almost all night because the bass from the music at the Wild Coast Stage aftershow party had been vibrating so intensely, I ended up dancing even though I didn't want to LMAO. We got up around 12-ish in the morning.Since it was festival season, I was motivated to just start the day with a beer. We kind of adopted our neighbor, who only had a tent and a cooling box. He sat with us the whole festival, and we had a good time chatting and playing card games. β οΈβ₯οΈβ£οΈβ¦οΈ
The day had some good acts in store, so we went and saw Querbeat, Thrice, AnnenMayKantereit, Leoniden, and Rise Against. My personal highlight was AnnenMayKantereit, since I used to sing a song from them in school in my school band lol. (Fun fact: back in the early Designfreaks days I used to listen to them all the time!)
Their lyrics just hit something in me, and I cried tears of... joy? I guess. It felt healing in some way for some private reasons, too. π©Ή
That day though, I have to admit: I was really just hiding in the shadows. Wherever Melina and our adopted one wanted to go, I followed and stood somewhere shaded while they had a blast. (I mean, I had a blast too. Just... from afar.) At one point, I was standing in the shade and a cute lady (I'm sure she was about 50-ish) noticed us being friends. When I had to go to the toilet and tried to return to my shadowy spot, she stepped aside and told me she had saved it for me π₯Ή It was so sweet!!
Back at the camp, two girls randomly came up and asked if they could join our card game. Of course we said yes and ended up befriending them, too. So I guess we adopted them as well. βΊοΈ
After AnnenMayKantereit, Melina and I went to the aftershow party (which happened every night) to see what all the hype was about.
And we absolutely understood.
Why would we go to bed just because it was "typical bedtime"? We were already kept awake by the loud music and freezing at night, so we might as well go to the party and have the time of our lives! The DJ was amazing. One great song after another, and we couldn't leave the dance floor.
At one point, we went to the bar for more drinks. Under the influence, I tend to dance a little... freely, and I ended up hitting on a guy who, surprisingly, was into it and even kissed me. After the kiss, though, he told me he was "straight" and asked if my friend (Melina) was single. Blah blah blah, they kissed, and we all went back to the dance floor.
Suddenly, the guy kissed me again, even though I thought he wasn't into it. But then he started telling me that our kiss had shifted something in him and said even more nasty adult stuff. π¬ My shocked face got caught by Melina, and I told her what he said. We went to get more drinks to cool off, but the guy started hitting on her again, which she didn't want. She gave me the agreed-upon signal so I'd know to step in.
I took her hand and wanted to walk a few steps away, but she sped up, and I figured, okay, I guess we're running now. So we ran away to the German song Major Tom. As we ran out of the party tent, we noticed the sun rising again and kept running through the crisp morning air back to our camp. We didn't stop once, hoping he wouldn't follow us. LMAO.
Poor guy, actually. We could've just said no, but I guess the alcohol made us go for the simpler solution π
When we got to the camp we noticed it was 5am and the music stopped playing.
But I have to say, we felt alive and kind of like that one advertisement from VIVA back in the days. Does anybody remember?
π This one in particular.
Saturday:
So practically, the story continues today. Just when we were about to relax a bit at our camp (we weren't tired AT ALL), a random girl and a random dude (she had already asked) walked past us, saw us being awake, and came straight over to ask if we were down to play "Flunkyball".
It's a game where two teams stand opposite each other. A bottle is placed in the middle. One player throws a ball to knock over the bottle. If it's knocked over, the other team runs to get the ball while the thrower's team drinks AS FAST AS THEY CAN. Once the bottle is stood back up and the ball is returned, everyone stops drinking. First team to finish all their drinks wins.
Surprisingly, we found four (or so) more strangers (from one camp) who were also down to chug beer at 6 a.m. with us and we got on with the game! It was so much fun, and all of our personalities really matched. We caught each other's vibe like a dream. At one point, we even acted like those boys from the German movie "Die Wilden Kerle", which was sooo funny and wholesome π
Since the other four had originally wanted to go take a shower and we'd stopped them midway, we made a plan to meet again at 8 a.m. to play some more, including other drinking games. And everyone actually showed up on time! I even got to test out "Trichtern", which is literally drinking half a liter of beer in a few seconds.
π Here's a short of some guys doing it, to get an idea of it.
After playing another game, I got REALLY tired though, so I decided to go take a nap. I slept for about 7 hours and got woken up by Melina since the acts we wanted to see were about to start! That day, we saw Zartmann, 01099, Deftones, and then my highlight of the day: Apache 207.

After that, we went to the aftershow party again because why the helly not?!? HAHA
This time though, there was no random guy involved, and we had a great time. Then suddenly, the song Major Tom (I told you about earlier) started playing, and I got the idea to run in circles with Melina just to relive the feeling we had the day before. She agreed, and we moved to a slightly less crowded part of the tent and started running in circles, holding out our arms to imitate an airplane. βοΈ
And suddenly people started to join in and we were about 8 strangers again, just running in circles, having a good time together.
Sunday:
And so we get to Sunday. We had just had our airplane moment with strangers, and the sun was rising again.
In the early morning, our adopted neighbors chimed in, as well as the other camp that had kind of adopted us too.
This time, we didn't spend most of the morning in another camp, but actually went to take a shower and then headed straight to bed. βΊ

After grabbing some new drinks, we headed to Nina Chuba. About halfway through the show, I noticed a familiar-looking guy behind the VIP section and realized it was a German fitness influencer I've been following (and chatting with here and there on IG) since Covid! As we were about to leave, I saw him leaving too. That's when I stopped Melina and told her I needed to fangirl for a second. I stopped him for a little chat (since I didn't want to hold him up too long if he was headed somewhere).

Maybe I'm overthinking, LOL.
At Jeremias, I thought I didn't know them, but as we got there, I heard one of their songs and was like, βOMG I DO KNOW THEM!!β I was positively surprised they were at the festival too! HAHA
When the concert was over, we headed to SDP. I'm not that into them, but it's nice to be able to say that I've at least seen them live once. But midway through, they had to stop the show, and a voice came through the speakers:
β οΈ The festival must be paused due to heavy weather conditions, and we need to be evacuated. Everybody should return to their cars and turn on their emergency blinkers so strangers know there's a seat available (if they're late, can't find their car, or for whatever reason). β οΈ

To pass the time, Melina and I played the game "Got It" and it really helped the time fly by!
About 2 hours later, we were allowed back into the festival and got to enjoy Green Day. We tried to get front-row views and actually made it to the first barricade. Suddenly, a guy in front of us turned around and asked, "Did you take a photo with Elton? If not, he's standing behind you." (He's a VERY famous TV host.)
I told the guy I had already met Elton in my sister's hometown, and when he didn't believe me, I just turned around and asked the host if he remembered watching football with a small group of firefighters in a little village and he confirmed it!
Melina told me later that me asking that question was the most random thing she's ever witnessed, and we couldn't stop laughing about it even the next day. π
We left the concert midway though, since it got a little boringβ¦ Please don't judge us. I know Green Day is really cool and all, butβ¦ every song kinda sounded the same. "American Idiot" was a hit, but that's about it. Sorryyyyy ππ»ππ»
Back at our camp, we heard that strong winds were expected again during the night, and we were worried our pavilion might start flying off. So we just threw it away (it was broken anyway).
Our camp was right next to the area where rubbish was collected. It was basically fences forming a rectangle, with cardboard signs explaining how to separate the trash. All we had to do was pull out the pegs from the pavilion's legs and flip it into the rectangle. Done!
Some guy recorded the whole thing because he thought it was hilarious! He even sent it to me on Instagram later, which I'm so grateful for. He captured such a funny moment for us. It was a great way to end the festival.
Monday:
We packed all our stuff, said goodbye to our new-found friends (who we might see again at the next Hurricane Festival 2026), got rid of our rubbish, and made our way back to the car, yet again carrying the heavy stuff from our camp. UGH. π₯΅
The first McDonald's we found was our breakfast. π
And that's all about it. It was a fantastic festival, and I made so many memories I hope to cherish for a very long time. Being back to reality feels weird, but it's only going to make me appreciate the time I had even more and it makes me even more excited for next year's festival.
